NASA PAST AND FUTURE

NASA all started on July 29, 1958, but the reason it started was on October 4, 1957, the launch of sputnik. The only reason NASA started was because of fear of the Russians. Russia launched the first satellite and that started the space race. This was a small part of the cold war the big part was getting rid of communism.

First, it started with sputnik and America was scared that Russia could drop a bomb on us. We had no clue what the Russians could do but we all knew that we were scared so we got to work. Kennedy then had a speech that was we choose the moon. He said that “We choose this challenge not because it’s an easy challenge but because this is a hard challenge.” NASA started with a good budget to help the space race. With their budget we sent people to space and better we sent Neil Armstrong to the moon.

After the cold war was over with Russia NASA’s budget plummeted all the way to a 1/2 of a penny that’s one penny out of two dollars. That’s less than a school’s budget, but NASA still makes satellites and telescopes. NASA has been paying Russia to use spaceship because of how low their budget is. They basically give astronauts a check and send them to Russia to go to space. When we went to the moon we said “It took us ten years to get to the moon it will take us ten more years to make it to mars.” Well after 47 years we did not make it to mars so I guess it was a big dream. I think that NASA should have a good budget so we could go to mars. America has lots of oil and coal that we had to pay for and that means that we have debt so do we even have enough money to raise NASA’s budget. Maybe we can become rich and raise NASA’s budget. Think about it we started from fear and ended in happiness with Russia which ended NASA’s good budget. Private spaceships started because NASA lost their good budget so they asked private companies to build spaceships. They asked them because they don’t get their money from the government like NASA does. This spaceship is by virgin galactic the guy who made it is Richard Branson. He started out with nothing and started collecting records and started a record company. Now he’s going up to space. Private spaceships are important they help NASA go up to space, to discover stuff like mars. With the help of private space ships maybe we will get there before another 50 years.

Ever since there have been people, there have been explorers, looking in places where other hadn't been before. Not everyone does it, but we are part of a species where some members of the species do—to the benefit of us all. –Neil Degrasse Tysson.
